Healthcare and healthcare workers of all disciplines are weary, under appreciated, fearful about the overwhelming responsibilities, liabilities and lack of security. Patient acuity and volumes are high. Nurse to patient ratios in many places are unrealistic. It is stressful, raw, gritty work regardless of all the shiny, electronic and adaptive tools. Healthcare is still a wonderful, miraculous, important calling. I believe it’s imperative that we help the on the job warriors to heal themselves and their work groups. Continue reading
What appears bold or fearless is often sheer ignorance or misguided confidence that I am as likely to succeed as to fail. Many a project, assignment, or even a career move has been nothing more than being thrown or pushed into a pool and told, “Swim!” Gagging, splashing, flailing wildly to survive describes my particular dance with education, preparation and planning. Swimming to survive is a lot different than swimming skill. My isolated blogging experience is much the same.
Today I am the student, excited, willing and ready to learn from the beginning. This will require a lot of attentiveness to my impatience, and self will. By doing this work I hope to reduce my fear and resistance to those grave gravitars, winnowing widgets and all the other programming lingo that makes my eyes cross and head ache.
So bring on the Happiness Engineers. I’m on board. Coach, inspire, direct and amuse me as I try and do when I blog. Build my abilities and confidence. Let’s go! Michele
